Make a Sentence I

Make a sentence

Sentences are meaningful expressions made from one or more words. Just as sounds combine to express a meaningful word, words combine to create a meaningful sentence.

The most basic Sanskrit sentence is a single verb.

  • गच्छति।
    (Someone) goes.

We can add other words to this basic sentence

  • अर्जुनो गच्छति।
    Arjungoes.
  • अर्जुनो वनं गच्छति।
    Arjun goes to the forest.

Verb changes according of the number of the subject in Sanskrit. For making sentences we need to know where to place the appropriate usage of the noun and verb ‘pratyayas’.

Some examples

  1. गिर्योःमध्येसूर्योदयःशोभते। (The sun looks beautiful (nice) between the two hills.)

2. हरेःपत्नीलक्ष्मीः। (Lakshmi is the wife of Hari.)

3. बालकःपठति। (The boy is reading.)

4. सीताक्रीडति। (Sita plays.)

5.  रेमाउपविशति। (Rema sits.)
